Things I Learned In Lincoln: A List
December 10, 2009 · 2 Comments
- I LOVE snow. And I even love cold weather. How did this happen?
- Being a musician really is a lot of fun.
- “Once we get a lot of money, then happiness will come.”
- Not everything that is awesome is always new. But some things definitely are.
It might be a short list, but just you wait until I elaborate… It’s a little something special I like to call the “Lincoln Logs of Life: Things I learned while on the road.”
Wait for it….

342 In 365 Or, Something Close…
November 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Today is my 100th post since starting the 365.
100 posts in 123 days.
Not perfect, but let’s be honest…
…we were never sure I’d make it this far.
Kinda feels like it’s my birthday.
Ode To My Show
November 12, 2009 · 1 Comment
I started to write a poem about how I’m playing at a coffee shop tonight, but when I was half way through (thinking it was genius at first pen, of course) I realized that it had absolutely no structure. Or rhyme. So basically, it was like:
I like coffee.
I like music.
Come see me play music and drink coffee.
Alright, so it wasn’t quite that bad. But it was bad enough that it caused me to delete the whole thing and start from scratch.
If by ’start from scratch’ you mean state explicitly what I’d tried to say poetically? Then Yes. That’s what this “from scratch” blog post is.
I bet you like music and coffee.
You should come hear me play music while you drink coffee.

I Blog
November 5, 2009 · 2 Comments
Guess What?? I’m a featured blogger today over at Annie Blogs! I like to think it’s something special, because the blog community is just that – community. People who read blogs are people who write blogs, and it’s so fun to be connected to that. Thanks, Annie, for bringing us all together… :)
———————————————————————————————————————
Two blog links in two days? Two Annies in two days??
No, this is not the twilight zone. Just two different people I know kind of know, and a little extra blog love to be spread around.
Enjoy!

Wish That I Was (In Nashville To Congratulate Her Personally)
November 4, 2009 · 2 Comments
I started reading Annie Parsons‘ blog in early 2007 – long before I was a “serious” blogger myself. In fact, I’d actually creeped onto her myspace page through some mutual friends, started reading her posts there, and, well.. you know the rest. She’s the only blogger turned real-life friend I’ve ever met (so far).
I like to think of her posts as my “bloggy breakfast.” She tells the stories of life, music, and adventure in an easy-going, coffee table, conversational kind of way. And I think that’s what makes her blog so well loved. You read her blog and you feel like you know her. She invites you into her living room (or driveway at the very least), tells you a story, and you’re not the least bit surprised when you leave knowing you’d like to visit again.
She, like me, is a songwriter and musician. And she, like me, has recently released a recording. (Yay!) I’m no country music expert, but I’m pretty sure I know her writing enough to know that these song are going to be interesting and fun, catchy, and easy to listen to. I’ve heard a couple of the tracks already via her blog – and I’m already proud of the triumph I know this is for her.
I recommend you visit her blog to read all about the release – she’s featuring it throughout the week. You won’t be disappointed…

On Motives
October 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Have I mentioned recently that John Eldredge is one of my favorite authors? Well he is. He writes in a way that speaks directly to me.
I read a blog post he wrote today regarding motives, and I am humbled by the truth in what he says.
He reveals the heart of the matter, which really spoke to me today – and to some of the questions bubbling around my brain. His words may reach you in a totally different way, but I highly recommend you read them.
iBlog From My iPhone
October 24, 2009 · 2 Comments
Y’all. This week I got an iPhone. It is awesome. So awesome in fact, that I am blogging on a wordpress app as we speak. Forgive me if my punctuation is off kilter.
The best thing about the iPhone so far? Losing all my contacts when I synced it to my iTunes.
Oh wait, that was the lamest part.
On Blogging and the Big City
October 19, 2009 · 2 Comments
The thing about being a night time blogger is that, sometimes, blogging at night is just inconvenient. I mean, sometimes I’m very busy until very late. Take Friday, for example, when I watched a movie with my brother and sister in law, and didn’t get home until after midnight. Saturday? We played spades. And sometimes, I’m in Los Angeles all day and can’t get to my computer until after 11, and by then – I’m exhausted, so I just don’t even turn it on.
Perhaps a change to my routine is in order. I’ve got no job, for crying out loud, the least you’d think I could do is carve out 30 minutes a day for a blog….
And speaking of LA, I was there yesterday. And before being there I’d kind of thought that maybe it would be fun to live there. I saw some beautiful spots in LA, for sure, and there are plenty of people to meet. But even as I was making the hour and a half drive back to San Clemente last night, I felt myself relax just the tiniest bit – the moment I realized I was back in Orange County. Which is not to say anything about Orange County specifically, except that I really don’t think I am a downtown, big city kind of person. So much social pressure, so many time constraints, so dirty in places, so many expectations… Maybe this is all perceived by me, but I feel the freedom to be myself a little bit more when I am not surrounded by so much. I think this is why I love Alaska. It might not be LA or New York; it certainly doesn’t have the pizzaz and the glitz of a big city. But, in my opinion, it has a culture that gives space and freedom to be who you are. No matter where I live, big city or small, I want that.

Blessed
October 12, 2009 · 1 Comment
Well, you guys? I’m decompressing.
The last four days felt as long as an entire week.
I’ve been wanting to sit and write about it, but I was frantically packing all my things yesterday and saying goodbye to friends and family. I have never been so scattered before taking a trip, much less moving everything! I forgot my car keys in my niece’s bedroom. NO BIG.
But seriously? Can I just tell you how blessed I was this weekend by my church family? I had the opportunity to play and sing and share my story – and I was really encouraged by the response. It’s great to be a part of a community that supports you and believes in what you’re doing. That’s the kind of response I got this weekend – from friends, worship team partners, and church members. I felt really blessed by it.
And although it was hard for me to leave, I’m excited about where I’m headed.
This week? I’m in California, hanging with the fam.
Next? Colorado.
Keep checking back. There’s definitely more to come in this.
