Story

Everywhere I turn these days, people are talking about story. Donald Miller, Dan Allender, John Eldredge… My pastors are talking about it at church. My friends are talking about it when we get together. And you know what they’re all saying? Nothing happens outside the context of a larger story.

My life, your life, family dynamics, dreams and goals, insecurities and fears… All of it can be viewed within a bigger picture. Now, I’m wise enough to know I should let other people expound on this. They’ve written books; I refer you to them.

I can say, however, that this concept has and is literally changing my life. The catalyzing event that caused my move back to Dallas was also a time when God showed me, in a microcosm kind of way, a picture of the years of my life set within an overarching plot. I never understood the events I experienced in light of how “meaningless” they felt – meaningless because I couldn’t understand the significance or connection between them. But I have realized that all of this, everything that has happened in the last 10 years, is so much bigger than I can comprehend.

If you are reading this, you probably know that I moved recently, that I love music, and that I’m trying to figure out how that’s going to work into my life. But unless you’re a good friend of mine, you probably don’t know the full story.

What I’m doing now? It’s 100% influenced by where I’ve been, and I think it’s worth sharing.

  1. So true. A new class at church is based on a book by Chip Dodd, about our hearts, and of course there is a story when we are brave enough to face our hearts and our feelings. :) Happy journeying!
